INTRODUCTION

Tulsi (Holy Basil ) is a divine plant. Tulsi is considered to be a medicine for many diseases. It is also called ” Queen Of Herbs” and is grown traditionally in India in an earthen pot or the garden in every household for religious purposes. The main types of tulsi used worldwide are Rama Tulsi, Krishna tulsi, lemon tulsi, Sursa tulsi, Van Tulsi, etc. It enjoys a special place in Ayurveda because of its health applications

Today coronavirus has led to havoc in our day to day lives. It is one of the biggest pandemics of our age and countless people are infected and sadly the number of deaths is also very high. There is an infinite number of viruses and bacteria that infect us and the only way to protect ourselves is to raise our immunity level and nothing is better considered than tulsi to improve our immunity.

  1. Antibacterial and Antiviral and immunity booster: . It has strong antiviral properties and it also helps in inhibiting resistant strains of bacteria that are unable to respond to antibiotics.
  2.  Antipyretic: It has strong antipyretic properties and works on the fever of any origin like fever due to cold, influenza or malaria or fever with pain in ribs.
  3. Natural adaptogen: It helps your body deal with stress and not to mention how important today is to balance our stress loads.

  4. Protection and Detoxification: It has high antioxidant properties and it assists with the body’s internal housekeeping and protection of the body from toxin by eliminating them by enhancing the activity of liver detoxification.
  5. Air Pollution: It has great importance in combating air pollution. Thousands of tulsi plants have been planted around the Taj Mahal in Agra(one of the seven wonders of the world) to help protect the iconic marble building from environmental pollution damage.

  7. Other Uses: Tulsi seeds are used to make malas(necklaces) which are a string of beads that helps in focus during meditation. It is also used to create holy water and also helps to repel flies mosquitoes and other harmful insects.

It has numerous health benefits and is also referred to as golden remedy of Ayurveda but this reputed herb might also have some aftereffects or precautions  that needed to be kept in mind

Precautions while consuming Tulsi

  • Not suitable for pregnant women: Pregnant women should avoid using tulsi.
  • Diabetes: It can lower blood glucose levels .it can boost the effect of medication taken to lower blood sugar and deteriorate sugar from its normal level
  • Teeth staining: It can result in discoloration of teeth because of the high content of iron in it, therefore it should be swallowed and directly gulped to avoid discoloration.

Conclusion

It is truly amazing what plants and offers for our health. Even modern-day scientific research demonstrates fantastic health benefits of tulsi and wisdom in Ayurveda celebrates it as a plant that can be worshipped, and consumed for medicinal and spiritual purposes within daily life.

We all should be thankful for nature and should never underestimate the power of natural medicine and healing.
